Fun Signs in China – Cultural Translation is Entertaining

Some countries have really great signs.  Signs in China are some of my favorite.  Sometimes they are funny because of a difference in our cultures.  Sometimes it is a confusion in translation.  I assume, that someone must know someone who speaks fluent English…  However, for entertainment, I am glad they do not…

Here are 19 of my favorite signs in China:

(Disclaimer for Fun Sings in China:
Are you bored of travel because it is too easy? Tired of being on the road because you feel it is a little too mainstream? Annoyed by other travellers telling the same story about how wasted they got last night with other foreigners just like them in another typical lame bar while listening to a cover band doing renditions of ‘Hotel Car-reef-ron-ria’? If all of that seems as interesting as discussing meatballs with someone from Stockholm while hanging out in Vietnam, well, I have a plan for you… Come to China.

Nothing you know or understand or base your life on will matter anymore. You will essentially be starting from square one. Plenty of experience on the road you say? Confident that it is probably just another easy breeze? Nope. This is trickier to travel through than the bottom of Africa. Welcome to Language Barrier Land. If you can say a few words in Mandarin, well you are already ahead of the game. If you are a Unilignual Moron like me, well, you are in for a tough treat. However, it is a total blast to have no cares and to have no idea where you are and have no idea how to get anywhere else. The Chinese are wonderful and hopeful helpers at all time and all of the confusion will keep everyone laughing.)
