Stone Town Zanzibar – Being Uncool
Stone Town Zanzibar – Being Uncool.
Dec 10
I basically worked on my website all day to get it ready to spring out. And with technology, I had a lot of help from my friend Rob who is two continents away. The modern world… I am using my little hotel room as an office and I am sure that the guys running this guesthouse think that I am lame, and wonder what I am doing in my room all day long. I am in there being uncool doing things that I need to do in the geek world…
I went out for a walk to find some fruit to eat and exchange some money. It is hot here. There is always sweat leaking out of me. Perhaps I am not used to the temperature either. There are also very few white people around. I do not see many of them. But the Tanzanian’s are super nice and friendly. Today I had my first person ask me for money. He said he was very hungry. He was also wearing nicer clothes than me.
When I got back to the guesthouse, I had some forms to fill out to get back some Dutch taxes. I was talking to the local man at reception when I noticed an advertisement for a bus that takes people directly to the top of the island for $7. I asked him, “Is that the ‘white-person’ bus, full of white tourists?” He laughed and said it was. I said, “Eeeew…” He laughed. I asked him, “Is there a dola-dola that will take me to the top?” He said there was. I said that it is a much better way to travel, because then you meet local people and get culture. He liked me and thought I was funny.
- Cloth market. I like the colors.
