La Paz to Copacabana: Train Wreck of a Day
La Paz to Copacabana: Train Wreck of a Day.
May 25.
Neither of us could sleep at all. It was 10am and though my body was tired, and my brain was not racing, but it would not let me rest. And my stomach is still wonky. So, we decided to try to start our day which was actually just a continuation of the previous day. I felt terrible and there was no energy at all in my body, but we managed to check out of our hostel and head to the shopping district for my friend. I was a total wreck and I am not sure if I have felt worse in the past few months of my life but of course today was the day where people seemed to know me. “Hey, are you the Beaver guy?” Two random people at different times approached me on the street having met me previously in South America somewhere on the gringo trail. I could barely register where I knew them from. Welcome to a very shitty day.
At 2pm my friend and I got on a bus from La Paz to Copacabana. My jaw was sore from clinching my teeth so much over the past 12 hours. I passed out against the window of my La Paz to Copacabana bus seat for about two hours until we arrived at Lake Titicaca. It was gorgeous when I opened my eyes at the lake front and we had to get off the bus to catch a small boat across the water to the other side where our bus would arrive on a barge. It was really cool, but I felt too shitty to enjoy how really cool it was that the road to Copacabana has such a strange twist. But, my condition had improved very much in the two hours of sleep. If my body was a phone battery, I had gone from 3% to about 25% during that two hour nap.
In Copacabana my friend and I got a shared room, went out for dinner and back to the room again to hide from the cold. I am not sure why we are here freezing! We will head to Cusco in a couple of days where life will be in a more favorable climate.
