Interested in a Thailand Tourist Visa?

Let’s figure out if you need a Thai tourist visa…

  • Feel like laying on some of the world’s most beautiful beaches?
  • How about the food?  Do you salivate thinking about one of the top cuisine cultures in the world?
  • Got a hankering to live like you are rich on a small budget?
  • Maybe you are here because you have a libido drawing you and you have heard rumours.  Do not worry.  You are one of many.
  • In the mood for a Full Moon Party and blacking out after drinking buckets of something-or-other in Koh Phangan?

Thailand has it all!

If you have answered yes to any of the above, yep, you probably need one.

Fortunately the Thai tourist visa is relatively easy to get to make this country accessible for you.

The Thailand tourist visa is free for 57 of the earth’s nations.  That is over 1/4 of the planet who can go for free.  Where do you fall in line?  Well, let’s figure out where you are from!

If you feel national pride from any of the five countries listed below, you will get a 90 day stamp that will allow you to stay when you enter Thailand.

Basically, if you are packing  a passport from half of South America and South Korea, you will get a 90 day Thai tourist visa for free as you arrive at Thailand customs.  It is that easy for:

  • Argentina
  • Brazil
  • Chile
  • South Korea
  • Peru

The countries above have a trade-off with people from Thailand are allowed to come and do the same in your country.

You did not fall into the category with the most kick-ass visa options?  No problem!  Maybe 90 days is too many for your kick ass personality anyhow and you will just end up getting yourself into too much trouble staying for so long.  I Still have good news for you.

If any of these country names directly below are on the cover of your passport, you will get a full 30 day Thailand tourist visa stamped in your passport, just for showing up at the Thai border:

  • Brunei
  • Canada
  • France
  • Germany
  • Hong Kong
  • Indonesia
  • Italy
  • Japan
  • Laos
  • Macao
  • Malaysia
  • Mongolia
  • Philippines
  • Russia
  • Singapore
  • Turkey
  • United Kingdom
  • United States
  • Vietnam

Did not see your country in the list yet?  We still have some room.  Do not fret!

If you are from one of the countries listed below and you are coming to Thailand via any airline, you will be granted a 30 day visa for showing up.  However, I am not sure what your country did, but if you are crossing a border by land (arriving by road or boat from from Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, or Myanmar) they are only going to give you 15 days to stay in the country.  Yea, I know, what a hassle and a hustle through if you are from:

  • Australia
  • Austria
  • Belgium
  • Bahrain
  • Czech Republic
  • Denmark
  • Estonia
  • Finland
  • Greece
  • Hungary
  • Iceland
  • Ireland
  • Israel
  • Kuwait
  • Liechtenstein
  • Luxembourg
  • Monaco
  • Netherlands
  • New Zealand
  • Norway
  • Oman
  • Poland
  • Portugal
  • Qatar
  • Slovakia
  • Slovenia
  • Spain
  • South Africa
  • Sweden
  • Switzerland
  • United Arab Emirates

* Travel tip – So if you are from one of the countries listed above, fly into Thailand and then hit the road and see the other countries around the Elephant’s-Head-Shaped-Nation (talk about irony)!
**The majority of the countries that are visa-exempt and listed above have an option for an extra 30 day extension.

Oh oh.  Still have not found your national passport.  The herd is starting to get pretty thin!  There are two nations left not listed above that are allowed to enter Thailand visa-free.

You can get a Thai tourist visa for free for 14 free days if you are from:

  • Cambodia
  • Myanmar

Okay.  I know.  You feel sad.  You were not there and you have dropped down to the next list.  But all is not lost.  You can still go! It is alright, but now you will have to pay.  However, you are not going to have to sell your motorcycle.  The price is still reasonable.

It will cost you 1,000 Thai Baht (which is about $30 US), and you will get 15 days in the country.  They are even going to give you the Thai tourist visa on arrival! You will not be able to extend this visa, but it is probably unnecessary anyhow.  After 15 days in Thailand your abused body is probably going to want you to take it home to have a vacation from your vacation anyhow!  This option is available to you if you are from:

  • Andorra
  • Bhutan
  • Bulgaria
  • China
  • Cyprus
  • Ethiopia
  • India
  • Kazakhstan
  • Latvia
  • Lithuania
  • Maldives
  • Malta
  • Mauritius
  • Romania
  • San Marino
  • Saudi Arabia
  • Taiwan
  • Ukraine
  • Uzbekistan

Now, the bad news…  If you did not find your country listed anywhere above for information on a Thai tourist visa, unfortunately, you are going to have to contact the Thailand consulate in your country…

Fingers crossed though!  Hopefully it works out quite easily for you, and you end up there!  It is probably easier to get than you think!

Should you come from a country not listed above and you have information on how to get a visa for your homeland, please let Big Beaver Diaries know in the comments section below.
